Wildplaces 3 luxury lodges (and two more opening soon!) are perfectly situated to showcase the very best of Uganda’s iconic safari destinations. Each with its own intuitive attention to detail and remote landscape, we sought the pockets of Uganda that still remain wild and secret.
Our accommodation options offer an authentic safari experience that is graciously complemented by warm and engaging local staff and expert guides. The perfect opportunity for travelers to slow down, connect to nature and awaken their senses.
Our award-winning lodges are intimate, private and unique. Service is gentle and discreet. We hire from the local community and are active in building community projects. Everything we do has conservation at its heart.

You could call it a love story.
A boy is born in a small Ugandan town on the banks of the River Nile. His first words are Swahili. On the other side of the world girl is born in a small town on the shores of Lake Ontario. Her first words are Japanese. Somehow the planets align and this unlikely pair, from opposite sides of world, collide at University in Canada. After several years of hopping between Canada and England, and after the birth of their two children Annabelle and Fergus, Jonathan came home to Uganda. Nearly 30 years on, the Wright family still calls Uganda home.
Inspired by his passion for wildlife and conservation, and with the generous help of friends and family, Jonathan and Pamela launched The Uganda Safari Company and the Wildplaces collection of properties.
We now live off-grid, just outside Kampala with dogs, cats and an incredible array of birds. Great Blue Turaco and Kingfisher are regular visitors on the veranda. We venture into Kampala two or three times a week. Pamela is the Honorary Consul for Canada and Jonathan oversees the running of the business.
Founding Director
Pamela has lived in Uganda for 20 years (dragged here by Johnny, who promised she’d love it). A native of Montreal, she studied Anthropology at University and worked for a number of years in television and advertising development before a total career overhaul …she looks after the softer side of the safari and lodge business and also works as the Honorary Consul for Canada in Kampala.
Managing Director
Jonathan was born in Uganda and educated in Kenya, UK, and Canada. Despite this global schooling, Johnny would happily have skipped it all to return to his favourite spot on the Nile, fishing for Nile Perch. His passion for Uganda, its wilderness and its natural beauty is limitless – he is happiest in the bush in his ripped shorts, binoculars in hand, squinting at the horizon.
